March Update

i'm going to TRY and be better about updating.  some people can update their blog everyday and i wonder how they do it!  so here's a cliff-notes version of my life during the month of March.

since this year was LEAP YEAR, my roommates and i decided to have a party, and we leaped back to the 80s!  we rocked out to 80s music, chewed bazooka bubble gum, played mario brothers, twister, and just dance on the wii.  my favorite part was dressing up the pups!  bailey had neon leg-warmers and ruca had a hot pink and leopard print skirt.  enjoy the pictures!

i had a little relapse, a taste of my past, something brought it all back like a flood.  i got a text from a friend who had heard that andrew got engaged...engaged to that girl i saw at church.  engaged??? i was shocked!  how could he have gotten healthy enough to begin dating a girl, develop a healthy relationship, tell her EVERYTHING, and then this girl still wants to marry him?  i wanted to write her dad a letter, to beg him NOT to give his little girl away to this man, this man who will ruin her life.  i wanted to warn her to what she's getting into...all the heartache, all the pain.  i talked with my family, marc (the pastor who has been through everything with me), my roommates, and dickens.  after talking through my feelings, i realized the best thing i can do, and anyone can do, is PRAY!!!  pray that God reveals His will and portrays andrew's true colors.  i realized i'm in such a GOOD place in my life right now!  if i tried to do anything, to be the informer, to reach out, nothing good would come from it.  instead, i will thank God every moment for the life he has given me, His redeeming love and grace i've experienced this past year, the people in my life surrounding me with love, my healthy relationship with dickens, the simple joy of feeding dolphins or playing fetch with bailey...my heart is whole again and i truly am happy!!

for christmas, i got dickens a nascar experience.  we drove to the auto speedway in fontana, ca where he raced around the track (going over 150 mph the whole time) like a real nascar driver.  i loved watching him...he was all dressed up in the fire-proof outfit and big helmet.  he had to climb in the window and they sealed him in, and away he went!  it was so fun for me to watch him enjoy this gift and fully experience it...that's the best part of giving gifts!  what a fun day!

i've had a lot of job interviews this past month...3 for animal care and 1 for animal training.  they're all opportunities at seaworld, san diego.  the animal care ones are full-time and the animal training one is seasonal.  i got rejected for 2 of the animal care positions but i'm still waiting to hear about the animal training one.  the swim test process this year was great!  i felt like a veteran (i should, this was the 8th time doing the seaworld swim test).  i saw girls that reminded me of myself 5 years ago and i did everything i could to encourage them and to ease their anxiety about the process.  i'm at the point in my career that i'm going to go after every opportunity given to me and have faith that God will open the right door and if i don't get a position, i know that when it DOES happen, it'll be in HIS timing and it'll be perfect!  i'll keep you updated.

dickens and i went to las vegas at the end of the month to meet up with a group of his friends for march madness.  we stayed at Encore, which was soooooo nice!  we watched most of the basketball games, gambled at bit, watched the bellagio night water show (my favorite!), laid by the pool, AND the highlight of the trip...i won $80 on a penny slot called "double dolphins!"  it was awesome!  i got into the bonus world and got all these free spins...so fun!!

bailey update:  she's still the best dog in the entire world!  she's a little bit of a teenagers sometimes (stubborn and "talks" back) but by the end of the evening, she's super cuddly and sweet!  she's brings so much joy to our home.  bekah's family visited earlier this month with a 2 year old and she was so good with him...patient and tolerant.  i still rush home from work to see her greeting me at the door with her tail wagging and jumping up to say hello...it's the best feeling!  she and ruca are together a lot...they play and cuddle together, they steal toys from each other, run around together.  it's just so fun to watch them interact.

my cousin, brian, and his girlfriend drove down a couple weeks ago to go to disneyland.  dickens and i drove up to Anaheim to meet them for lunch, krysten drove down from LA too!  it was fun to see them and catch up a little bit and to be around family.  it's too bad they don't live closer, they're so fun to hang out with!  they both are graduation from san jose state in may and both have jobs lined up already!  i'm so proud of them and happy for their future.

krysten invited dickens and i to a basketball in LA last week...it was the lakers vs. thunder (from oklahoma city).  krysten is a huge kevin durant fan and dickens is a lakers fan.  it was fun to be there with them, having krysten on one side of me and dickens on the other side and have them talk smack back and forth to each other.  it's so great to be in a relationship where dickens respects the relationship and bond i have with krysten, and krysten gets along with him and supports the relationship we have together. something so simple can mean so much to me.  the thunder ended up winning, but it was a great evening and we were thankful for krysten inviting us and getting such great tickets!

sooooo...the great wall of china 10k is not that long away!  i've been somewhat training for it.  i think the longest run i've been on is 5.5 miles.  i run 3 miles at lunch at work, but haven't been able to run the past week and i won't be able to run for another 2 weeks.  so i have the mentality that i'll survive this race, i'm going to do the best i can, but i'm not too worried about it or think i'll get some great time.  i'm doing it for the experience.  i've never ran a race before, so why not have the first race be on the great wall of china?  it may be my first and last race, but i'll have a good story to go with it.  i'm so proud of krysten!  she's been training A LOT for this race and i know her race is going to be a lot more challenging than mine.  i'll be at the finish line and it'll be a special memory for the two of us to have.

well, i think that's a good update.  i'll try and be better about posting, i promise!
