so i've been swimming more this week in preparation for the swim test on friday, and each year i start training, i have the same problem. i know i'm physically capable to pass this test...i mean, i've taken the seaworld swim test six times in the past 3 years, so i know what to expect. but it's always a little frightening swimming without goggles...getting used to it, my eyes burning and not having protection every time i blow air out...getting used to not seeing ANYTHING but a lot of blurry blue colors as i try and navigate through the water. some of you know that i have TERRIBLE eyesight (thanks mom and dad) and without the aid of contact lenses, i would pretty much be blind. i don't know what it is about swimming, but being in the water calms me...it relaxes me. i'm so thankful to God for giving me the gift of swimming and providing me a place where i can think and clear my mind. last week i was attempting the underwater swim (part of the swim test is swimming completely underwater 125 feet with one breath) and even though my lungs were screaming at me for air, i couldn't help but feel relaxed, like all the problems in my life were gone. i remember the first time i took the swim i was freaking out because i wouldn't be able to see anything, but after diving in the water, a sense of peace surrounded me and i knew i could make it. yeah, for the first half of underwater test, i just HOPE i'm going in the right direction, but then, i faintly see the target pole sticking in the water, guiding me where to go...and the closer and closer i get to the end target, the easier it is to see.
"Then Jesus placed his hands on the man's eyes again, and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything CLEARLY." Mark 8:25
Praise God indeed! I love this picture and how it represents clarity to you in more ways than one. You are an amazing, strong young woman and we are proud to call you our daughter . . . bad eyes and all (sorry about that). I can't wait to hear about the swim test and what the future holds for you. You will always be in our prayers!
